Congratulations to the entire Safety team on their recent Construction Employers’ Association (CEA) Safety Award wins! This hard-earned recognition from CEA was a powerful reflection of Webcor’s unwavering commitment to Speaking Up for Safety and refusal to compromise the health and safety our employees and project partners.

“Receiving this award underscores our understanding that safety is not simply about meeting regulations and standards, but more importantly, creating a culture of caring among Webcorians that trickles down to our Craft workers and inspires them to continue learning about potential hazards and unsafe conditions,” says Safety Director Mario Rodriguez. “I’m proud to say that Webcorians have embraced this culture of caring and worked tirelessly to ensure it’s the standard on all of our job sites. More importantly, our Craft workers’ and trade partners’ engagement with our safety programs (e.g. Webcor SAFE), jobsite safety committees, and weekly toolbox trainings has demonstrated a firm commitment to safety— not only to their own, but to every one of their colleagues’.”

Mario, Safety Dept. Coordinator Emily Schmitt, Regional Safety Manager Clara de Lara, Carpenter Lead Foreman Enrique Ramirez, and Laborer Dora Orozco accepted both the President’s Safety Award and Excellence in Safety Award on behalf of Webcor Builders and the Excellence in Safety Award on behalf of Webcor Craft at the CEA Annual General Membership Dinner Meeting in Concord.

Webcor Craft won the Excellence in Safety Award by meeting the below criteria:

• Total Incident Rate 25% Below the Industry Average
• Lost Workday Incident Rate 25% Below the Industry Average
• Experience Modification Rate < 1.0
• An Active Safety Training Program

As a winner of both the Excellence in Safety Award and President’s Safety Award, Webcor Builders’ safety program “far exceeded” the industry standard by meeting the below criteria:

• A Total Incident Rate that is 50% Below the Industry Average
• A Lost Workday Incident Rate that is 50% Below the Industry Average
• Experience Modification Rate ≤ .70
• Demonstration of an Active Training Program that includes complete and accurate records containing the number and names of employees trained in (with approximate dates of training): OSHA 10 Hour; First Aid/CPR; Competency in Scaffold, Excavation and Fall Protection; Other Training.

Although fostering a sustainable culture of active caring that compels team members to always speak up for safety is certainly challenging, it’s at the heart of what makes Webcor such a uniquely great place to work, Mario says.
