This project supports the continued growth of the American Express brand and its iconic Centurion Lounges. Webcor completed the project in two phases, all within the fully operational Terminal 3 environment at SFO. To increase the lounge's capacity, Phase 1 entailed the complete demolition and extension of the Mezzanine level, to create expansion space for the lounge (doubling its square footage, from 8,171 SF to 16,606 SF). The demolition work was carefully orchestrated in night shifts to avoid impact to the heavy foot traffic and TSA operations during daytime. Phase 2 then entailed the demolition, relocation, and modernization of existing building systems and conditions. The lounge features improved branding and wayfinding elements, a welcoming reception area with living wall, and new men’s, women’s, and all-gender restrooms and shower rooms. Inside, a prep kitchen, buffet, and beverage counter serves guests. The lounge area is equipped with phone rooms and comfortable spaces to work and seek respite from the bustling terminal activity. The project is targeting LEED Gold®.
