On May 28, 2019, SFO's Consolidated Administration Campus (CAC) Phase I received its LEED v4 BD+C: New Construction Gold certification, marking a milestone as Webcor's first LEED version 4-certified project and setting the stage for such success on future projects. LEED v4 was established by the USGBC to motivate stronger energy performance, better materials, increased water efficiency, and accounting for human experience. All new projects seeking LEED certification after October 2016 are mandated to follow these more stringent guidelines for sustainable building. SFO Consolidated Administration Campus is an excellent example of the innovation and collaboration needed for certification to be successful.
With support from the project's LEED/sustainability consultant, Urban Fabrick, and the design team at Perkins and Will, sustainability principles and documentation were employed early in the design process and continued until project completion. Practices like indoor air quality tests, efficient waste management, and building product disclosure and optimization contributed to earning the credits needed for LEED Gold certification while setting the stage for Webcor projects to come.The SFO Consolidated Administration Campus (CAC) located at the San Francisco International Airport features one structure with four levels above grade and associated surface parking.
CAC houses an array of airport administrative facilities, including office spaces, a conference center, and the airport's first purpose-built storage space for the SFO Museum, the only accredited museum located in an airport.As SFO continued to expand in 2015, the dispersion of airport staff throughout the campus increasingly challenged their ability to collaborate and connect across departments. The CAC project resolved this by consolidating four distinct employee groups under one roof, unifying administrative and technical departments with easy access to landside, terminal, and airside activities. In addition to three levels of office space, the ground floor houses the SFO Museum, the only accredited museum within an airport in the country, and a variety of communal spaces, retail, and a cafe.
