Like many aspiring construction managers eager to land their first full-time role in the AEC industry, Project Engineer (PE) Intern Brendan Trinh’s passion for construction was ignited by his family. Although Brendan initially planned to apply to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo as a computer science major, it didn’t take long for him to decide that construction management—the same college major in which his dad had earned his degree—was the better fit for him.
As the son of two parents with successful careers in the AEC industry, Brendan was inspired to follow in their footsteps and pursue his own fruitful career in construction, a decision further solidified by his first internship experience at his dad’s general contracting firm the summer before he began college.
“My internship experience fueled my passion for construction even further—a passion I’ve cherished ever since,” Brendan says. “Ever since committing to construction management, I’ve embraced this field wholeheartedly and developed a deep respect for it.”
Just a couple months later, in the midst of his first semester at Cal Poly SLO, Brendan discovered Webcor at an on-campus fall career fair. After attending a Webcor info session and learning about their company culture, he decided to apply for their summer internship program in hopes of gaining more hands-on experience in the field. Sure enough, he was offered a spot in Webcor’s 2022 intern class and spent a jam-packed summer supporting the PM/CM team on several active Meta projects across the Bay Area.
This summer, he’s a returning Webcor intern taking on two of our highest-profile Southern California projects—Cosm at Hollywood Park and Hollywood Park Phase 1. From coordinating RFI processes and owner-architect-contractor (OAC) communication to supporting document control and trade coordination efforts and collaboration, Brendan’s excitedly tackled every opportunity to contribute to his team while learning everything he can about the industry.
“The practical knowledge I’ve gained from both Webcor internships will serve as a solid foundation for my postgrad career in construction management,” Brendan says. “Observing the coordinated efforts, planning, and skilled craftsmanship that contribute to the construction process has been an incredible learning experience. Engaging in daily on-site activities has allowed me to witness the transformation of a building as it comes together piece by piece—the best part of this whole experience.”
As Brendan approaches the final month of his internship, he’s excited to continue watching Cosm come together and supporting his team’s efforts to deliver the unique, highly anticipated entertainment center however he can.
“The intriguing problem-solving element inherent in construction has always drawn me to this work,” he says. “Constructing a flawless building is an almost unattainable goal—it falls on us to conquer these challenges head-on. I’m grateful that the Cosm team has offered me no shortage of opportunities to contribute to such challenges’ solutions.”
In his free time, Brendan prioritizes activities that keep him happy and relaxed yet active outside of work, including spending time with friends, playing soccer, snowboarding, and traveling the world with his parents.
