Webcor is the Largest General Contractor in Los Angeles County
Webcor Builders tops this year's list of the largest general contractors in Los Angeles County with $601 million in billings for work done locally. That's down $10million from a year ago.
San Mateo-based Webcor has four major projects under construction locally that are set to be completed this year. Those include a Hollywood and Vine project, comprising a W Hotel as well as a mixed-use residential project that will be completed in October. It is a $210 million project.
In downtown Los Angeles Webcor is working on AEG's Convention Center hotel and residences. The 1,000-room hotel will be topped with condos. Nearby, the company is working on the $300 million Concerto condo tower, which is being developed by Astani Enterprises.
"All of our projects are either on schedule or ahead of schedule," said Leo Bandini, senior vice president for Webcor in Los Angeles.
Looking forward, however, Bandini sees a tough year in 2010. He said that privately funded projects have been put on hold due to a lack of financing; four of his projects that were supposed to start have been held up.
"We will direct our efforts to the public sector," Bandini said.
The company will look to public works projects, schools and even hospital construction in order to stay active locally. Bandini hopes that financing will be made available soon.
He has seen some positive signs as developers have begun discussions about planning construction, whereas six months ago there was no dialogue at all.
